I'm currently in my 200hr yoga certification program, and a fellow yogini asked what our top 3 yoga moments are which sent me into a lengthy reflection of my last 7 years of practicing yoga. It was hard to choose 3, but this is what I shared with him and what I'll share with you:
1. The moment I learned my practice is my own and not a competition or a comparison; happened in a hot yoga class in San Diego (studio: Yoga Sol). 2. While my best friend was doing her 200hr program and needed to teach outside classes to her peers, I got my first private session and my first savasana adjustment -- life changing shoulder adjustment and so cool to be a part of her journey. 3. At a vinyasa flow class in la jolla (studio: Prana), I reached such a meditative state in savasana that my breathing was soooo slow and soooo controlled, it felt that literally everything had stopped, even my heart. I was in what felt like true death but it was so peaceful and blissful (not like a scary movie death), and I for the first (and only, so far) time embodied a corpse. I felt like I finally understood the meaning of savasana. Even in all my meditation, I've never reached this physical death feeling again but the awareness has stayed. Oh!! And how magical the first breath was again!! It's so fitting the studio name was Prana.
